HERALDRY LATELY

INDIA INK ON NEWS PRINT- 22" x 30"
MESSING AROUND WITH THE LEVELS

DROP MOLDS
PLATTERS FROM 2009

I'm really excited by this new body of work.  The wall hangings, the pots and the sketch book are starting to come together. All of these pieces were made using wooden drop molds. I made the molds when I was still at Alfred for a series of platters  I was working on at the time.  The forms are meant to reference shields and ideas of heraldry. I made four platters with those molds and for some reason just never took it any further despite looking back on them as some of my favorite work from college.

I never let go of the molds and now three years later I'm back at it, using them to make some wall hangings. Ultimately I will display them together as a sort coat of arms. I think as soon as I can start throwing on the wheel again I might try making some tureens with these forms.  Here are some low quality cell phone pictures of green ware and works on paper to hold you over until I have some finished work.
